Grace for the Journey

There is a place in our journey with God that I call the in-between.
It is the place between the promise and its fulfilment.
Between the prayer and the answer.
Between what God has spoken and what we can presently see.
And sometimes, the in-between can be a difficult place to live.

Trusting God in the In-Between

There is a place in our journey with God that I call the in-between.
It is the place between the promise and its fulfilment.
Between the prayer and the answer.
Between what God has spoken and what we can presently see.
And sometimes, the in-between can be a difficult place to live.

We pray. We believe. We stand on God’s Word. Yet nothing around us seems to be changing.
It is easy in those moments to wonder:
Did I hear God correctly?
Has He forgotten me?
Why is this taking so long?
But throughout Scripture, we see that waiting was often part of God’s preparation.
Abraham waited for Isaac.
Joseph carried a God-given dream through betrayal, slavery and imprisonment before he saw its fulfilment.
David was anointed king long before he sat on the throne.
And even Jesus lived quietly for many years before the season of His public ministry began.
The waiting wasn’t wasted.
And neither is yours.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5

🌿 God is working where you cannot see
One of the greatest lessons of faith is learning that God’s silence does not mean God’s absence.
There are things He may be arranging that we know nothing about.
There may be people He is preparing.
Doors He is positioning.
Things He is changing within us.
Sometimes we are so focused on what we are waiting for that we don’t notice what God is doing in us while we wait.
The in-between can become holy ground when we stop asking only, “God, when will this happen?” and begin asking:
“Lord, what are You teaching me here?”
Perhaps He is deepening your trust.
Perhaps He is teaching you patience.
Perhaps He is loosening your dependence on circumstances and drawing you into a deeper dependence upon Him.
Don’t dig up the seed
When a farmer plants a seed, he doesn’t dig it up every morning to see whether it is growing.
He waters the ground.
He tends the soil.
And he waits.
There is life beneath the surface long before anything becomes visible.
Some of God’s work in our lives is like that.
Just because you cannot see it yet doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep obeying the last thing God told you to do.
Keep loving people.
Keep walking faithfully through today.
And leave tomorrow with Him.

🌿 A thought for your journey
Is there something you have been waiting for God to do?
Instead of allowing the waiting to become a place of anxiety, perhaps today you could turn it into a place of worship.
Say:
“Father, I don’t understand everything You are doing, but I trust You. I know You are faithful, and I will walk with You through the in-between.”

🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You that You are working even when I cannot see what You are doing.
Help me not to become discouraged in seasons of waiting. Teach me to trust Your heart when I cannot understand Your timing.
Use this season to strengthen my faith, deepen my relationship with You, and prepare me for everything You have ahead.
I choose today to trust You in the in-between.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
