Grace for the Journey: You Don’t Have to Carry It All

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee.” — Psalm 55:22, KJV

Sometimes the heaviest things we carry cannot be seen.

Concern for someone we love. A decision we are afraid to make. An unanswered prayer. The quiet pressure of trying to keep everything together when our own hearts are tired.

We may be so accustomed to carrying these burdens that we forget we can bring them to the Lord.

His invitation is still open.

You can come to Jesus with the concern you have prayed about many times. You can tell Him what frightens you, what hurts, and what you cannot work out. You do not need polished words. A whispered, “Lord, help me,” is a prayer.

Psalm 55:22 gives us a precious promise: when we cast our burden upon the Lord, He will sustain us. That does not mean every circumstance changes immediately. Sometimes His sustaining grace comes as strength for a difficult conversation, wisdom to seek help, or peace that allows us to rest while the answer is still unfolding.

Entrusting someone to God does not mean we stop loving them. It means we acknowledge that our love has limits, while His wisdom and care reach beyond what we can see.

There may still be a practical step for us to take. An apology to make. A boundary to set. A phone call asking for support. We can take that step prayerfully, without demanding that we solve everything today.

Grace for today

Pause for a moment. Name the burden that has been weighing on your heart. Bring that specific concern to the Lord.

You are allowed to receive care, too.

A moment to reflect

What am I trying to carry alone, and what would it look like to entrust it to God today?

Let’s pray

Father, You know the concerns I struggle to put down. I bring them to You now. Give me wisdom for what is mine to do, courage to ask for help, and peace as I entrust the outcome to You. Thank You for sustaining me with Your faithful love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May you find a quiet place to rest in His care today.
